A lot of these airlines have received major heat from women’s rights organizations for discriminating against women who are not only shorter but also ‘plump’ or not skinny. No reason to class someone based on looks but apparently it’s more important for these companies to appease the eye of the male traveler as it equates more dollars in their pocket. Just speaking from what I have heard, I don’t really believe that a shorter person (man or woman) has a real chance of being hired by one of these airline companies as a stewardess or airline hostess. If it’s something you really want, then I would give it a try as it will mean free travel to exciting locations but don’t be surprised if/when it doesn’t work out.

Some airlines, like United, use 747 and 777 aircraft and require that flight attendants are tall enough to reach the overhead bins and emergency equipment(at least 5′3 or 160 cm approximately). Small regional airlines, however, use smaller planes that even a small flight attendant will have no problem reaching the bins and emergency equipment.

In developed foreign countries flight attendant is a well regarded and sought profession and only the cream of the crop is accepted.

Some institute provide the opportunity of being an air hostess with such height but they would charge some specific fee.
